Don't Think Your Contracting Business Can Run Without You?

It Can...If You Have the Right Tools!

If you’re on this page, I'm betting one or more of the following challenges applies to you:

  • You’re sick of running your company by trying to talk to your employees or by writing memos. (Bet you already know they both don't cut it.)
  • There aren’t enough hours in the day to get it all done—and you don’t trust anyone enough to delegate.
  • You’re busy but you can’t find enough good techs and if you do get someone good, either your competition poaches them or they’re a primadonna who doesn’t play well with others.
  • You keep answering the same questions from the same people over and over again. Day after day you’re the answer-person.
  • Your company is delivering an inconsistent level of service leading to profit draining callbacks. No one does anything completely right or 100% the company way.

Our integrated standard operating procedures can address all this and more.

I know what you’re going through...because I’ve been there.

You struggle to make sales because you’re chasing your tail running unnecessary callbacks.

Your kids are growing up without you because you’re working 16 hours a day, 7 days a week trying to keep the business afloat.

If you’re 30, you can’t do what you used to do at 20, and if you’re 40, you can't do what you used to do at 30...and it only gets worse from there.

What if you get sick? Would your managers know how to keep the business running effectively? (Probably not.)

I’ve been there and I’ve solved it.
And I’m about to solve it for you.

What if I told you there is a system that addresses all of the above?

A system that would allow you to...

  • Get everyone on the same page: Get your employees all doing the same thing the same way, improving performance and leading to more glowing customer reviews and referrals.
  • Find good people: You’re never going to meet your staffing needs if all you are doing is hiring “experienced” people and hoping they’re good. Manuals give you the power to find willing people and grow them into as many great employees as you want.
  • Recover precious family time: If your business is dysfunctional you’ll never be able to make time to attend your kids' sports and dance events. Imagine going to an event without your phone blowing up with texts and phone calls during that precious family time.
  • Become the employer of choice: Lay out a clear career path for your employees so hopefully one of them will eventually rise up through the ranks and take your seat. This is the best way to end the cycle of good to great staff leaving you for your competition.
  • Create a profitable company: Create a company that runs so well that you’re leveraging all your opportunities—phone calls, dispatching, and running calls to maximize sales without having to constantly run callbacks.
  • Take control of your business: Either get a foundation under your fast growing business that is driving you crazy or figure out how to bring others on board so you can finally grow in a sane way.

The 7-Power Contractor® Signature Operating Manuals System is a series of contractor specific operating manual templates (90 percent already done for you), and a comprehensive video tutorial series that guides you step-by-step through how to edit the manuals, roll them out right, and keep them in your culture.

“We got our operating manuals in place in 2008, another challenging time. It saved us and has made all the difference in our business growth. This time, all we had to do was quickly tweak our existing procedures and scripts to navigate these tougher times.”

— Rob Minnick, President, Minnick's Plumbing, Heating, Cooling and Insulation, Laurel, MD

Joe Gerolami, President of Border Mechanical Services Ltd., Kelowna, BC, Canada

"With manuals, CSRs maximize each call, Dispatchers maximize billable hour efficiency, and Techs run each call better. All that is great. But what I really love is the consistency of how our company operates at every position now—AMAZING!"

— Jim Harper, PSI Vail, CO

Here's what past clients are saying...

Let me share my story...

Where did all these manuals come from, and why listen to me?

Picture this (it won’t be hard). I’m in my early 40s and running with my two brothers a family-owned plumbing, heating, cooling, and electrical business on Long Island, and I am crazy busy.

We had grown to a company of 70 people, and we just kept throwing people at the problem.

We thought the next person that walked through the door would magically make it all work. That was never the case.

We also managed our company, which was a tough NYC union shop by the way, via memos.

I remember many late nights at the office with my brother Richie, after we’d run around town fixing people’s mistakes, composing memos in all caps and bold, which we’d hand out to the techs the next day. Did this work? No!

I will say that I have two daughters and I never missed a dance recital. I was the Dad with the big video camera who arrived just in time, recorded the video, and then rushed back to work. I thought that was enough (I showed up right?) until my wife told me what one of my daughters said, which was “I wish my Dad was around more” and that just broke my heart.

I was there in person but my mind was thinking about the next job.

Know that the company was making good money but it just got to a point where I knew if I didn’t figure out a way to get control of the business I’d be a rich dead guy. And that wasn’t my goal. And I don’t think it’s yours either.

During this time, I was encouraged to read The E-Myth by Michael Gerber, and it changed my life. In it Gerber says, “If you’re always working in your business and never on your business, nothing is going to change.”

It’s a simple concept but man, was it hard. You know exactly what I’m saying. Like you, I had 70 people pulling me in 70 directions, something I now recognize as “fire fighting.” I realized I needed to spend time in fire prevention if I was ever going to see my way out of the situation.

So you know what I did?

I was tempted to go into my office, close the door and write all the policies and procedures it took to run my company.

I thought I would come out with the finished product under my arms and present them to the staff like the 10 commandments.

Luckily, my great friend and industry titan Dan Hollohan intervened before I got too far down the pike. He said, “Al, that will never work.” I said, “OK, if you’re so smart, what would you do?” And he said, “Let’s get everyone together in a meeting…” I hired him to help us write the first version of our operating manuals and the rest is history.

Because of those manuals, the business began to run so smoothly, it really could run without me. So I gave my brothers and Dad three years notice and sold my share of the business to my brothers and retired from contracting—at age 48.

That’s a long way of saying, I have been where you are and I know exactly what you’re going through. And I have the added benefit of not only having helped my own company get control but also hundreds of other contractors across North America. Contractors like Jim Criniti, Keith Pinkerton, Todd Iocco and Tommy Mello, who were mentioned above.

You could invest $150,000 like I did to get help writing these manuals from scratch...OR you can spend a fraction of that and get my system for running your contracting business with less stress and more success TODAY.

Think there might be an alternative to this system?

Here's what you need to know.

  • You may be able to find manual templates elsewhere but they will not be as service contractor specific as mine are, which means you’ll have to customize the heck out of them.
  • They also won’t be integrated. And the integration is what makes those first three manuals—CSR, Dispatcher, and Tech—able to transform your company so quickly.
  • The other option is to sit down and write your own Operating Manuals. If you find time to get it done, it’s going to end up looking like a ransom note with stuff pulled from everywhere or like a law book that no one can understand or is willing to buy into. And it won’t help you one bit in court. (I tell that sad and expensive story in Lesson 1.)
  • Why not save yourself the trouble and start with a template that’s service contractor specific, proven to work, and 90% already done for you?

"I hired a CSR on Monday, and using the manuals, she was 75% booked by Friday. I couldn’t believe how well it worked."

- Matt Thompson, Gold Star Service, Hicksville, NY

Successful Service Contractor

“Al’s first 3 standard operating procedure manuals—CSR, Dispatcher, and Tech—have helped my Dispatchers to stay in better touch with the Techs. Now they can keep the customer in the loop should scheduling change. We also separated out the CSR and Dispatcher functions, and that has helped us maximize scheduling, which is working really well.”

— Rusty Baker, Baker & Sons Plumbing, Marion, IL

Successful Service Contractor

"I actually went on vacation to celebrate my anniversary for two weeks in the middle of my busy season! I would have never thought it was possible. Life is good. Al said the results I desired would come from Operating Manuals, and they did. I’m so thankful for what Al does for contractors like me.”

— Adrian Stephenson, President, Comfort Services, Raleigh, NC

Successful Service Contractor

“Before we had operating manuals, techs were constantly calling to ask, ‘Is this right?’ The manuals make the techs more self sufficient so managers and owners have more time to do their own jobs.”

Mark Paup, Golden Rule Plumbing, Heating & Cooling, Grimes, IA

How much time will the course take?

You will need to commit to a two-hour block of time to work on this project every week. Put it on your calendar. If you want to go faster, you can add more two-hour blocks to your week. Know that it’s so much easier to be an editor than a creator. And remember, the manuals are 90 percent already done for you, so you will be amazed at how much you can get done in just two hours without interruptions.

How does the refund policy work?
